Dads Chat - Term 2 2025

Mondays - 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th May
A strengths-based series of four workshops that focus on connecting with other local dads and dives deep into your role as a dad or male carer. Join Tony from Building Better Brains to share ideas and get hands on with tools and techniques that make you feel more connected to your children and other dads. This series of workshops will explore: • Communication, patience and play. • Supporting the emotional ups and downs of your children. • Understanding the developing brains of children: Tips and techniques to support your child. • Parenting styles and attachment. • The power of play: Tools to to maximise the thing we often have so little of as dads, time. This program runs across 4 evenings, it is encouraged that particpants attend all sesison to obtain the full benefit of the program. Monday 5th May 7-9pm Monday 12th May 7-9pm Monday 19th May 7-9pm Monday 26th May 7-9pm Please note that these sessions are designed for adults and are not suitable for children to attend.

UYP Co Design Training

The Listen to Learn data is in! Now… it is time for the Upper Yarra Partnership (UYP) to embark on the Co-Design phase! This UYP meeting will be facilitated by Portable Consulting. Portable is a leader in Human-Centred Design (HCD), dedicated to creating transformational change that delivers meaningful impact for individuals and communities. This session will educate us about HCD followed by a case study and a Q&A session. Regardless of your experience or familiarity with HCD, we see this as an opportunity to learn collaboratively, sharing insights and perspectives and to ensure best practice when co-designing with community. There is a limit of 2 places per organisation. If you are unable to attend you will need to find another representative to fill your spot. Kinder Readiness - When is the right time to start?

Presented by Early Life Foundation, this free, evidence based session for parents, carers and early childhood professionals will provide invaluable information to support you in knowing when your child is ready to commence kindergarten and how you can make an informed decision. This session considers the importance of sending your child to kindergarten when they are ready to make the most of their learning and to enjoy their 13 years of formal schooling rather than just “coping”. Just for Kicks - soccer clinic

Teaching participants to play ball sports is not always easy but to teach them not to use their hands can be tough! This soccer session teaches participants how to stop and kick a moving soccer ball as well as passing and dribbling. The age-appropriate equipment means your child can master these skills more affectively and confidently. Just For Kicks - a focused soccer session supporting children to: - develop soccer skills, - understand important sporting values such as sportsmanship and teamwork - participate in an interactive soccer game which will build athletic abilities and - build on character development and a positive attitude towards sports. Often viewed as just child’s play, the humble Paper Plane is the perfect vehicle to teach basic engineering and physics principles in a practical, challenging and fun way. Children have a great deal of fun challenging themselves and others to find the paper plane design that will fly the furthest. Along the way they naturally learn to modify their design to test out what they have learnt about the principles of flight - lift, thrust, drag and yaw. Creating paper planes is enjoyable and it can also help children to: - discover engineering design and problem solving methods - discover and understand the forces of flight - apply scientific processes and testing to improve flight Suitable for children aged 3 years and over. Together with Agriculture Victoria, Agribusiness Yarra Valley and Holly's Backyard Bees have developed an engaging and fun education program to teach children and families about QFF; what QFF is, what we can do to prevent it, and how to respond to a detection and get your hands busy making an easy DIY fruit fly trap to take home for your own garden. Early years professionals from across the Yarra Ranges are invited to the launch of our poster series, You Can’t Be What You Can’t See. Posters will be available for early years and childcare centres to display around their facilities. These posters promote gender equity and challenge gender stereotypes by displaying both men and women in a diverse range of occupations.
