An OPEN CLASS for all to join in and get a good Zeibekiko Dance Work out and have fun with the international dance teacher Master of Zeibekiko Mr Christos Shakallis.
Men and women can participate in this OPEN introductory class. Bring your water bottle, towel and wear your dance shoes! A 2.5 hour with breaks class. Suitable for all shapes and sizes and ages.

MESSINIA CATERING is cooking up delectable Greek Mezzethes, antipasto platters, salads, dinner to include lamb and chicken on spit "kondosouvli" & more. Fruit platters. Drinks available at bar.
A journey into the Asia Minor history through music and dance.
Featuring from Greece the respected Yiannis Pagozidis, specializing in Pontian and Asia Minor dances. He is also an outstanding musician and will be entertaining us on the night LIVE, accompanied by Michael Platyrrahos & Giorgos Apostolidis.
Our local dance groups will decorate the event with their talented shows around the traditions of the Zeibekiko & 9/8 rhythm.
From Cyprus the internationally acclaimed Master of ZEIBEKIKO Christos Shakallis will perform and entertain the crowd.

ZEIBEKIKO: The tradition of the 9/8 rhythm MELISMA ENSEMBLE

Melisma Ensemble is a Sydney-based music group which performs Byzantine Chant and music from the art and folk traditions of Greece and the broader Eastern Mediterranean region. Among the aims of the group is to make these rich musical traditions more accessible to the Australian public while providing an opportunity for enthusiasts to connect, enjoy and learn about them in a meaningful and creative way.
Dimitri Koubaroulis, founder and director of Melisma, is psaltis (chanter) and teacher of Byzantine Chant and folk music, with a special interest in the music of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Melisma joins forces with guest star from Greece YIANNIS PAGOZIDIS on Pontian Lyra and Outi to perform songs from Thrace, Asia Minor and Pontus around the 9/8 rhythm theme.
The night will be enhanced with Sophia Ventouris School of Greek Dance on spotlight dance scenes, with traditional costumes worn of regions presented by the musicians.

YIANNI WAS BORN INTO A PONTIAN FAMILY. HIS FATHER & FAMILY WERE MAINLY ALL MUSICANS. HE GREW UP IN A PONTIAN MUSICAL ENVIRONMENT. IN HIS YOUNGER YEARS HE DANCED FOR DORA STRATOU DANCE THEATRE IN ATHENS. NOW HE HAS HIS OWN MUSIC ENSEMBLE NAMED RODOPI ENSEMBLE AND IS VERY ACTIVE IN THE CULTURAL COMMUNITY FOR THE PRESERVATION AND DISSEMINATION OF PONTIAN & CAPPADOCIAN MUSIC & DANCE.
HE HAS DONE OVER 20 YRS RESEARCH INTO THE DANCE AND TRADITIONS OF CAPPADOKIA AND CONTINUES TO WORK CLOSE WITH CULTURAL ASSOCIATIONS, GIVES TALKS, MUSIC SEMINARS & TRADITIONAL DANCE SEMINARS IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.

Our special guest musician from Greece Yiannis Pagozidis along with our local talents Michael Platyrrahos and Giorgios Apostolidis will present a special selection of songs from Asia Minor and Pontus.
Yianni is very well known in Greece for his contribution to the preservation of Pontian music & especially music from Cappadokia. He has played many times alongside Ross Daly and was a regular musician for Chronis Aidonidis.
Yianni is also a dance teacher and teaches traditional dances of Pontus , Cappadokia and generally dances from Asia Minor. He is visiting the Zeibekiko festival to teach traditional forms of the Zeibekiko 9/8 rhythms and of course play his special music !

lyra, oud, lavta, lute and many more, for children to experience close up and listen to the sounds of the instruments.
Michael and his children will demonstrate how to play each instrument.
Give aways & Zeibekiko beat music games with traditional wooden spoons from Asia Minor is also on the activity list !.
Music instruments from the Hellene World should be presented to our new generation. Hopefully this will help preserve traditional music, pass down sounds of our ancestors and keep history through traditional songs alive.

-10 dances at from Asia Minor inlcuding dances from Meli, Erythrea, Kessaria, Kappadokia, Smyrni, Constantinopole etc.,
-10 dances from Pontus
- laiko/popular Zeibekiko
Lunch break at approx 2pm for 20-30min
MESSINIA CATERING will have plates of souvlaki with chips and salad per person.
" TO BARAKI" - will be open coffee/drinks
The class will resume and have a small 10min break at 3.45pm and then we will continue dancing away till 5pm.

Did you know that the ZEIBEKIKO FAMILY of dances are rich, not only historically, but dance variations from different regions of Greece and Asia Minor.
The popular ZEIBEKIKO dance as we know it today migrated to Greece after the Asia Minor Catastrophe with the exchange of populations in 1922 in traditional form.
Zeibekikos holds great historic significance was danced in different forms by our forefathers.
We will explore these forms including: Aptaliko, Karsilamathes, Kamilieriko,Smyrneiko, Vrakathiko, Mytilinis, Fokiano, and of course include the Cypriot Zeibekiko.
Ticket includes seminar ,LIVE BAND instructed by Mixalis Platyrrahos.
