Experience the dynamic and rich medium of charcoal which will allow the participant to create portraits that seem three-dimensional! In this workshop, a photo reference will be supplied allowing focus on the sequential steps of creating a powerful charcoal portrait.

Learn how to block in areas of value, capturing areas of general form, and then gradually refine specific features of the subject, ending up with an expressive work with a strong likeness. This workshop will also look at methods of measurement, relative distances, plumb lines, finding angles, proportion, the effects that light and shade have on 3-dimensional form and communicating texture as relates to portraiture.

Charcoal will be looked at as a medium and the sequential steps needed to achieve the best results.
