Singing up Country event showcases First Nations musicians. Spearheaded by Michael Birk, Yaegl musician and local resident, this is one of Gaimaraigal Festival’s most memorable musical events. Under the auspices of the Frenchs Forest Parish Social Justice Group.It is strongly supported by Mona Vale Music. The big names are legendary jazz singer Johnny Nicol and superstar folk band, The Stiff Gins. Other bands are a mix of musical styles from Radical Son (R & B), GiiMusic (Folk Rock), Corey Kirk (Alternative Reggae), Green Hand Band (8-piece Reggae), Microwave Jenny (Alternative Upbeat), Michael Birk and the Recognisers (Alternative Rock).
Earlier in the afternoon (2:45 pm) we invite those interested to gather to talk and walk Country as members of the Kieran’s Creek Landcare group share their knowledge about this special place. There will be displays by Bush to Bowl. This segment is free with a limit of 75. Booking is essential.
Singing up Country begins with a smoking ceremony at 3:45 pm. The audience then moves indoors to listen to a range of First Nations musicians, expressing their truth and culture in story and song. Enjoy soup, bread, music and storytelling.
