A Midsummer Night's Dream

A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of 14 comedies written by William Shakespeare. Set around Midsummer night, the one night of the year which it is thought that merrymaking occurs, and supernatural beings interact with humans. Shakespeare cleverly weaves four plots from both the real and magical worlds: the court party of Theseus and Hippolyta,  four young lovers tale, the magical fairy world and the mechanicals or would-be actors who are rehearsing a play.

The story opens with Theseus and Hippolyta planning their wedding, the joy of their nuptials is rudely interrupted resulting in the Four Athenians lovers to running away to the forest, the home of the fairies and sprites, who can make mischief and merriment occur.  Puck, Oberon’s Chief fairy create chaos by making two of the lovers fall for the same girl, and then turns one of the mechanicals into a Donkey.

As the lovers run through the forest pursuing each other, Puck helps his master play a trick on the fairy queen making an “Ass” of her. In the end, all is restored, Puck reverses the magic, and the two couples reconcile and marry.
