2e – What we know, what we don’t know and what we can do.
Dr. Eileen Slater (Ph.D.) is well known for her research and support for families and schools in the area of gifted education. When Eileen and Patrick's eldest child spontaneously began reading at 3.5 years old, so began a long journey of understanding and advocacy. Two more children followed, and as we know, giftedness tends to run in families. Her younger children are both twice exceptional.
Previously a science teacher, school administrator, and curriculum consultant, Eileen turned her attention to research in the hope that she may be able to make the pathway easier for the children and families that followed. Eileen has been assessing gifted children for the past 7 years and successfully advocating in schools for appropriate educational accommodations to meet their needs. Still an active researcher, Eileen's research focuses on inclusive education practice.
