Alchemy - Searching for Medieval Gold
Join us for a performance of rare and little known musical works from the Middle Ages.
Lumina Vocal Ensemble and the Lyrebyrd Consort will take you on a journey back to the courts, abbeys and market-places of Medieval Europe in search of some of the greatest music of the period.
Lyrebyrd will introduce you to dozens of instruments of the time, including oud, rebec, vielle, psaltery, cornemuse and crumhorn.
From the earliest song by a female troubadour and the earliest known mass setting, to Australian premieres of works by Vitry, Machaut, Solage, Landini and Halle, help us find the nuggets of gold in two of Adelaide most beautiful venues.
