About
Rev. Tim Costello was invited to deliver this memorial lecture by the Missionary Sisters of Service and their mission entity Highways and Byways which continues the work of the Sisters. This congregation of Sisters was founded in Tasmania by Fr. John Wallis in 1944 to reach out to the isolated and marginalised. Their unique ministry was quite visionary and their numbers were never large, but they had a vast outreach in Australia. Like many religious congregations, their members are ageing. In 2010 they established Highways and Byways which funds projects in the spirit of the Sisters’ vision. Each year Highways and Byways provides small grants to community-led organisations for projects that address disadvantage and exclusion within towns and communities, especially in rural and regional Australia.
Tim Costello is one of Australia’s most respected community leaders and a sought-after voice on social justice issues, leadership and ethics. Given Tim’s extensive life experience, he will speak with conviction on a range of social issues facing our world today.
