West Australian Ballet has an exciting opportunity for young male and female dancers to be involved in the upcoming season of The Nutcracker at His Majesty’s Theatre (Friday 17 November 2023 – Sunday 10 December 2023). The Nutcracker is West Australian Ballet’s lavish production of the all-time Christmas favourite, choreographed by Jayne Smeulders, Aurélien Scannella and Sandy Delasalle-Scannella. Experience rehearsing and performing with Australia’s oldest ballet company.

Casting is at the discretion of the Artistic Team. Successful applicants will gain valuable rehearsal experience as part of WAB’s Talent Identification Program and will be contracted as a Child Guest Artist for a roster of performances during the season. Applicants must be available for all rehearsals and performances as indicated on the schedule below.

Requirements:

• Boys and Girls may apply
• Must be aged between 8 – 13 years and; 
• Must be between 120cm – 145cm in height
• Must have dance experience and be able to pick up choreography quickly

Audition Details:

• Open Auditions will be held between 11.00am – 4.00pm, Sunday 1 October.
• Each audition will take approximately 45 minutes, participants’ scheduled audition time will be confirmed via email once registrations close.
• Please wear dance appropriate clothes.
• Female candidates please wear tights, a leotard, ballet flats and hair tied back in a bun
• Male candidates please wear a leotard or singlet, tights and ballet flats
• Applicants will be notified of the outcome of the Open Auditions ahead of the second round (Call Back) audition to be held on Saturday 7 October, after which casting will be determined.

Registrations:

• Registrations must be received by 8pm, Saturday 24 September (AWST).
• Late registrations will not be accepted.
• Your Trybooking ticket is your confirmation that your application has been received.
• Your exact audition timing will be sent to you via email on Wednesday 27 September.
• By proceeding past the Trybooking checkout you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of participating in activities at West Australian Ballet.

The Nutcracker Children’s Rehearsal and Performance Schedule 2023

Please note:

• The following schedule is subject to change and will be updated with more detail in due course. 
• Where possible, studio rehearsals will occur outside of school hours. *Earlier rehearsal calls subject to schedule confirmation closer to time.
• Hours will increase during Theatre Rehearsal and Performance periods.
• There will be multiple casts of performers, therefore children will not be required for every performance.
• Casting and performance schedules will be advised within the first few weeks of rehearsals.
