Acclaimed Indigenous author, activist, and historian Tony Birch will join us at St Kilda Library this September to discuss his latest collection of short stories Dark As Last Night. Released in 2021, this powerful new collection won the 2022 NSW Premier’s Literary Award and the Queensland Literary Award for Fiction.Professor Tony Birch is the bestselling and award-winning Indigenous-Australian author of The White Girl, Ghost River, Blood, Shadowboxing, Father’s Day, The Promise and Common People. In 2017 he was awarded the Patrick White Literary Award.
Tony will be joined in conversation by Melbourne-based writer, literary critic and academic Bec Kavanagh. Bec has appeared at the Melbourne & Sydney Writers Festivals and on Radio National’s Books and Arts Daily. She has judged a number of literary prizes, including the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award, and her reviews can be found in The Guardian, Bookseller & Publisher and The Big Issue.
