Local Councils in South Australia are growing ever more tyrannical & unaccountable; usually governing for themselves backed by major political interests, rather than for the residents & ratepayers they are supposed to serve.Too much Council business is being passed secretly under "Confidential" Agenda items, while the people who pay their wages are locked out of civic participation.
Meanwhile, our Council rates keep escalating at a rapid rate, with no signs of Councils stopping their ever-expansionist objectives.
Council rates are effectively a wealth tax which many can no longer afford. No one should be at risk of losing their home when they can no longer afford to pay rates due to age, disability or simply being "asset rich/income poor".
Two legal challenges to two Councils in SA - City of Salisbury and Onkaparinga - now may finally hold our local Councils, their CEO's, Mayors & Councillors accountable.
Our fundraiser seeks to cover the legal costs of those challenges.
