About
"Constitutional and Legislative Upheaval and the Future of Democracy in Israel"The Government of Israel, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, seeks extensive legislative changes to the constitutional and legal system, aiming to weaken the judiciary and its powers of review. The annulment of the 'reasonableness' standard has raised concerns about eroding checks and balances, potentially leading to an 'illiberal democracy.' Political protests and social disruption have ensued, posing threats to Israel's national and economic security and risking a constitutional crisis. This talk will explore the complexities and propose pathways to restore stability and social cohesion in Israel and its Jewish communities abroad. Upholding the rule of law, engaging in dialogue, and preserving democratic values are crucial in navigating these challenges. International cooperation and respecting diversity will contribute to a more secure future.
