WHAT? EMPATHY WORKSHOP "Listen to hear, speak to be understood"
The Empathy Workshop is a two hour development course which provides the ‘how’ of empathy.
- So often we want to be empathetic; we want to help and support others, but don’t know how.
- This course introduces and practices the process of empathetic listening within the framework of the
- language of compassion known as Nonviolent Communication (Rosenberg 2015).
- It's about listening and communicating in the best way to connect with another person, honouring and
- holding their needs and yours in mutual regard.
- It’s a judgement and blame free process to assist you in improving the quality of your interactions with people who may have strong opinions or use negative judgements in blameful ways.
WHY? Improve relationships with compassion and empathy by recognising our common humanity:
- Listen to the meanings behind someone’s painful words
- Recast their words into feelings and needs
- Negotiate strategies to support these needs
- Explore the different responses to ‘power over’ vs. 'power with’
These are the handouts that will be used during the course.
