Mia Macrossan
I was born in The Netherlands and emigrated to Australia with my family when I was eight years old. I studied at Brisbane universities graduating in Arts, Education and Teacher Librarianship. I spent the next decade or so travelling and working overseas in the usual variety of jobs, including being a research assistant in Addis Ababa for the UNECA and editor at Scholastic UK. Once I had children, I started working in Brisbane schools as a teacher librarian.
I have been judging various children’s literary awards now for about ten years, starting as a CBCA children’s book of the year judge. Since then I have often been an Aurealis judge and a Queensland Literary Awards judge and panel chair. For a number of years I was one of the judges of the annual Book Week displays in the Brisbane City Council libraries until Covid stopped them. I have been chair of the judging panel for the Book Links Award for Historical Children’s fiction since it started in 2021. I have been a children’s book reviewer for a very long time, starting with Fiction Focus, Reviewpoint, and Reading Time. I now review for Magpies, 4MBS Radio and of course, StoryLinks
