Hear from Captain Steven Wenban, Director Maritime Environmental Emergencies Response (MEER) & Ports at Department of Transport, about the history of celestial navigation, its significance in modern maritime practices, and its relevance to our industry today. This event will also be an informative exploration into the practical application of celestial navigation, featuring a unique live demonstration on using a sextant. Learn how this age-old tool allowed sailors to determine their position at sea using stars and other celestial bodies as guides. This live demonstration will provide valuable insights into the practicality and precision of this 18th century technique.
