This In Conversation between authors Lucy Mushita and Robyn Bishop is an opportunity to discuss the ways in which women’s lives in Zimbabwe and Australia were challenging for women at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In Zimbabwe, a young girl, Chinongwa, is given away because of poverty caused by British colonisation; in Australia, young Matilda is expected to work for nothing in the family and give up her dreams of an independent life. These women had dreams that were hard to realise.
