Geelong's 20th Century Architecture: CBD Guided Tour
About
We're celebrating Geelong's UNESCO Design Week, so enjoy this two hour Guided Tour with experienced Geelong National Trust Branch guides. We’ll walk among some of Geelong's iconic 1900s buildings developed when the City became a manufacturing and mercantile centre. They include Edwardian Freestyle, Art Deco, and Modernist to Brutalist buildings. The Tour begins and ends at the Johnstone Park Rotunda, near the Railway Station. The Park was designed as part of a grand entrance to Geelong when Mercer St was the main approach. The Peace Memorial and Hitchcock Memorial Gates are part of the design. Gheringhap, Ryrie, Moorabool and Malop Streets carry the 20th Century theme further.
The NT booklet 'Some Highlights of Geelong’s 20th Century Architecture' will be available for sale ($8) on the day. Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle.
The equipment used on this tour is supported by a City of Greater Geelong Arts Program Grant.
City parking is available nearby on Gheringhap St.
