Actors' Studio '24 | Pepperberry Theatre Inc.
Actor’s Studio ‘24 is a series of acting workshops hosted by Pepperberry Theatre Inc. and is aimed at experienced and seasoned performers around lutrawita/Tasmania.
It’s a space to PLAY - PRACTISE - PERFORM, and to flex a wide variety acting & performance skills, on a regular basis.
Each monthly workshop will be facilitated by a different tutor, an experienced and professional Tasmanian performer / acting coach aimed to give you 10 months of varied skills practise during 2024.
Whether you just want to PLAY, BUILD YOUR PERFORMANCE SKILLS, PRACTISE & LEARN MORE the Actors' Studio '24 is the space and time for you. It's your creative outlet to join like-minded practising artists at a regular time and a familiar space. Work with and learn from industry professionals outside your usual theatrical circles - meet tutors, performers, directors from all areas of lutrawita/Tasmania.

Sunday morning workshops will be held from 10am - 2pm

workshops will be held on the stage of the Peacock Theatre where available, with the Founders’ Room as a backup venue when the theatre is unavailable

workshops are aimed at experienced and practising performers; workshops may not be suitable for beginning actors; participants need to be aged 18+

- We are happy to swap workshops for you if you pre-book and then find you're unable to attend. Please give us 24 hours notice of this. Transferring to another workshop will be dependent on space available.
- Unfortunately we are not able to offer refunds for any no-shows or changes of mind. However, you are welcome to offer your place to someone else if you're unable to attend and cannot transfer to another workshop. Please contact the organiser to notify of any changes to your booking.

1) February : MICHELLE WILLIAMS - Choreo in Performance
Explore ways to create choreography and movement in any performance. Michelle’s workshop will teach actors to collaborate with movement by planning, creating and realising dance or movement design concepts.
2) March : ROBERT JARMAN - Don't Tell Me, Show Me; Working Well with Directors
Rehearsals can be an exciting journey of discovery, trial-and-error, trail-and-triumph. Or they can be a slog. This workshop will explore how the actor can best contribute to the rehearsal process and so get the most out of it.
3) April : ANDREW CASEY - Stage Combat Skills
This workshop will teach you the basic principles and techniques for Hand to Hand Stage Combat. Principles include spatial awareness, distance, timing, angles, weight, breakdown of movements and acted aggression. Techniques include the basic methods of slapping, punching, and kicking, moving towards more complex movements such as throwing.
4) May : PENNY MCDONALD - The Alexander Technique
Free up your body, mind, senses and voice, to be truly alive in the moment. This workshop will explore the principles of the Alexander Technique where you will discover a process to release tension from your body and breath. We will explore presence, trust and listening. These skills are not only the foundation for acting they are skills for life.
5) June : JUSTUS NEUMANN - Thinking Strictly Forbidden! Presence on Stage and in Life; Improvisation & Spontaneous Storytelling
Thinking can get in the way of creativity. We have to trust that our imaginations will supply us in the moment with the right ideas that are needed to be spontaneous and authentic. This workshop is all about finding this moment, the stressless place, the platform from where it can all happen with ease.
6) July : BRETT ROGERS - Intro to Stanislavski
Explore the fundamental acting technique of Stanislavski, where you'll unlock the transformative potential of the given circumstances, actions, and objectives. Acquire invaluable insights into script analysis, honing skills crucial for character development, improvisation, and navigating contemporary scene-work with confidence.
7) August : ROBERT JARMAN - Directing Techniques, Tips & Tricks
Discover the director within! Robert Jarman will explore directing techniques for emerging directors, and actors wanting to get into the mind of an experienced director to inform their performing and acting craft working on scenes and scripts.
8) September : JEFF KEVIN - Shakespearean Technique: From the Page to the Floor
Discover how Shakespeare is relevant in a contemporary setting while not changing a single word! Utilize texts as a performer by using your own natural voice, instinct and imagination. Explore the rhythm/metre underpinning blank verse with a focus on the physical where action, play and risk are explored!
9) October : CHRIS JACKSON - Physiovocal & Integrated Training
Physiovocal and integrated training: high intensity voice, body and mind training for the dynamic, adaptive, present and playful performer. Focus on unlocking deeper body, voice and mind connections to find more creativity and dynamics within your performances and performing self.
10) November : BEN WINSPEAR - The Acting Game: Bringing it All Together
In this workshop we’ll be concentrating on how to guide performers towards their best work through discussion and inquiry. We’ll be working on the floor looking at intention and staging, and how the spatial and intellectual aspects of performance interact and inform each other.
