Kandak Sema is a romantic drama film directed by Asoka Athaudahetti and co-directed by Tao Nashimotho.

Set against the pastoral landscape of Japan filled up with exotic Sakura, Sumithra Rahubadde, perhaps, for the first time, explores an unknown territory in the Sinhala novel which carries the readers into rural agrarian Japan where farmers take foreign brides since Japanese women refuse to marry them.

Nupa is a young girl who marries an old Japanese farmer out of desperation to escape from poverty in Sri Lanka. A young politician is engaged in a lucrative business of supplying Sri Lankan maidens to old Japanese men, especially from Neegatha.
