The Pirates of Penzance - W S Gilbert & Sir Arthur Sullivan
The Pirates of Penzance is undoubtedly one of the most popular works from the G&S repertoire. In typical G&S style, it is a social commentary, poking good-natured fun at Victorian society and in particular, the aristocracy and the British military establishment. It includes such favourites as Mabel's 'Poor Wand'ring One', the satirical 'I am the very Model of a Modern Major-General' and the rollicking 'With Cat-Like Tread'. As always, there's mistaken identity, misdirected love, nobles in disguise, and comedic antics between the tender-hearted pirates and the bumbling British Constabulary. The usual surprise twist to the tale provides a happy ending to suit all.
