King Edward Memorial Hospital offer this free* 2 week Parent Education course to pregnant people who are birthing at King Edward Memorial Hospital.
ELIGIBILITY
• Birthing at King Edward Memorial Hospital
RECOMMENDED GESTATION TO BOOK
• We recommend booking a class for when you are 30 - 36 weeks
• We recommend booking this class in advance, once you have reached 20 weeks
LOCATION
This course is held ONLINE – 6.30 - 8.30pm for pregnant people and their support person.
This course is on 2 consecutive evening dates weekly, starting on the date advertised.
U se the same MSTeams link for each of the 2 evenings.
When you follow the provided link, you will be asked to enter a name into a free text box prior to being admitted to the virtual waiting room. The name that you provide will be visible to other attendees to the session. If you prefer to remain anonymous you can type 'anonymous' or use a nickname/initials if you wish. You will be requested to email your identifiers to the parent education email so that we can confirm attendance.
TICKET INSTRUCTIONS
• You only need to book 1 ticket - support people do not need a seperate booking.
• When booking, please use the pregnant person's name and Medical Reference Number (see Image Below)
CONTENT
2-part LIVE ONLINE course for first time parents-includes labour & birth topics taught by experienced and knowledgeable midwives.
- Week 1 covers signs of labour, when to come to hospital, what to expect, reframing pain, tools tips and practical skills to support you in labour, how to help your labour progress, how to cope with labour and how hormones influence labour and birth.
- Week 2 covers the actual birth of the baby, the birth of the placenta, delayed cord clamping, perineal tearing, what happens if medical interventions are needed, induction of labour, pain relief options and the early postnatal period.
- This course will empower you and your support person to make evidence based informed choices in your labour and birth.
PREPARATION
- Please have some ice or an icepack ready for an activity in week 1.
