In this first Women's Climate Conversation of 2024, WCC Founder Dr Janet Salisbury will be in conversation with women who were at COP28. The ‘UAE Consensus’ delivered an agreement among world leaders to ‘ transition away from fossil fuels’ - a statement that was seen as an important step by some but still falling far short of the needed phase out of fossil fuels.
Women showed great leadership in Dubai. However, while another declaration resolved to drive gender-responsive just transitions, which strengthen women’s and girls’ leadership and meaningful participation and decision making, of the 133 world leaders who attended, only 15 were women and only 38% of the negotiating teams from participating countries were women.
