Wombat Forestcare Night Event - Who are our night visitors?
About
Sunday March 10 at Countess Road, Trentham from 8.00 pmJoin noted local Field Naturalist, John Walter to observe the local insect life after dark. John will set up a sheet and special lights on a walking path 160 metres south of Countess Road at its intersection with Jim Dunn Track. The lights will be turned on at sunset at 7.45 pm but it will most likely be 8.30 before the insect arrive in larger numbers. Park your car at the intersection of Countess Road and Jim Dunn Track (900 metres down Countess Road from the Trentham Transfer Station) and follow the orange flagging south down the walking track to the survey site. There will be no moon so please bring a torch. While most visitors will be moths, it is common to see Lacewings, Crickets, Katydids, Beetles, Mantids, Leaf and Tree Hoppers, small Wasps, Flies plus several other insect groups. John recorded over 200 different species in mid-March 2023 at a site near Heathcote and is interested to see who lives in the Wombat Forest!
