"French Connections" explores the interplay between French composers and their influence and influences. Beginning with Debussy's evocative La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin, the audience are transported into Debussy's evocative musical landscapes. The concert then shifts gears with a set of Schubert-inspired works from 19th-century guitarist and composer Johann Kaspar Mertz, adding historical depth and romantic flair to the repertoire. Eric Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1 introduces a serene atmosphere, followed by Australian composer, Ross Edwards' contrasting pieces "Emily’s Song" and "Djanaba," showcasing a range of styles. Fauré's Sicilienne adds elegance and nostalgia, leading to Clarice Assad's Brasileirinhas, exploring elements of traditional Brazilian music which is an exciting virtuosic conclusion, offering a vibrant end to our musical journey.Location
