This captivating piece showcases the composer’s position as a link between romanticism and the increasingly popular impressionist movement. Like many of her chamber works, it made waves among French society when it premiered in 1905, yet along of the composer’s other works (numbering well over 200), faded into obscurity after her death. Such was the fate of women composers in that era.Mozart's first piano quartet was commissioned by Franz Anton Hoffmeister for the amateur market but turned out severe and complex, leading to Hoffmeister's cancellation of the commission despite its recognition as a masterpiece.
