Melbourne Strings present a special concert inspired by themes in the work of Lynne Boyd. From a silver sea to the transfigured night, these works for string sextet will take you on a journey through the forest, along the waterways, and to the self.Celebrating women in the arts with an all-female ensemble performing works by ground-breaking female composers Caroline Shaw, Gabriela Smith, and Leiluhua Lanzilotti; with works inspired by our relationships to water and land.
The concert is based around the epic ‘Transfigured night’ by Schoenberg. A masterwork of late romantic harmonic writing, it is renowned for its broad swathes of tonal colours with fine detail and motifs seamlessly intertwined within the lush harmonic structure of the poetic material. The piece beautifully complements Lynne Boyd’s lyrical seascapes, which aimed to capture ephemeral beauty and timelessness.
