The day begins with a tour by the owner of The Braes, an historic Sorensen garden. Following that will be a tour of another, smaller Sorensen garden nearby, then a visit to committee member, Stephen Hathway’s eclectic garden next door to The Everglades. The garden owners will all be available to speak about their gardens.
The Braes (1947+) is on a dramatic 2+ hectare sloping site with two creeks, ponds, terracing, walls and rich planting, developed by Dr. Geoffrey Hagarty. It has been actively renewed and extended since c1995 by enthusiastic owners.
Attendees should bring their own picnic lunch to eat at Stephen’s garden. Light refreshments will also be provided.
Attendees are welcome to tour The Everglades, a National Trust house and garden, after their lunch, but that is not part of the AGHS event. National Trust members will have free admission, but for non members there is a charge of $17.
The starting location of this event is The Braes, 64-68 Grose Street, Leura.
