Some of the long list of testimonials from Nick Valentine's recent (March 2024) 1-hour online workshop:
- I think all lawyers in Tasmania should be doing this. I do not know a lawyer at the moment who is not at risk of burn out.
- Very informative in explaining and elaborating on a lot of concepts we hear nowadays like mindfulness, centering and exactly what these concepts/activities mean, ie, not just buzzwords. Only criticism is that it's too short. Will keep an eye out for future seminars like this and hopefully a workshop soon!
- Absolutely brilliant.
- Important session that was detailed and informative.
- Fantastic!!!
- The practical recommendations... were great.
- I think Nick was very engaging and knowledgeable. I would be interested in attending [more] seminars.
- Nick was an excellent presenter and provided a lot of informative information in a short time. A longer session would [be] excellent.
- More of the same...
- More sessions like this :)
The Society is pleased to bring you this popular updated 1-hour workshop for lawyers with Nick Valentine in-person in Burnie. The workshop draws upon the latest research and methodology in relation to mental health in the legal profession. It also draws upon the work of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. The session aims to:
- Enhance knowledge and understanding regarding psychological injuries in the legal profession (including burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma).
- Understand the early somatic, cognitive, emotional & behavioural warning signs to suggest emerging psychological injury.
- Explore the 'window of tolerance' and self care skills (including mindfulness, self compassion and somatic resources) to be practised & used in real time and via ritual.
Nick started his career working in Forensic Psychology (in custody and the community), and have since worked in Child Protection, Family Violence and Emergency Services sectors. He has continued to provide counselling, consultancy, and workshops to these sectors, in addition to the legal sector (including private firms and Australian Law Societies), international Employment Assistance Programs (EAP), and the Insurance and Workers Compensation sectors.
