Ensemble 642 – The Lyre of Orpheus
About
Ensemble 642Hannah Lane – baroque harp
Nicholas Pollock – theorbo, baroque guitar
A musical icon of ancient Greece, the demigod Orpheus had the ability to charm wild animals and tame the elements with the sweetness of his magical lyre. His story illuminates the power of music to create peace in the face of conflict and inspired groundbreaking compositions and styles of playing in the early Baroque period. Immerse yourself in the sensual sounds of early plucked strings, as Ensemble 642 perform spellbinding music by some of the most pioneering composers of this era including Kapsberger, Castaldi and rare gems from anonymous manuscripts.
Two outstanding artists in the Antipodean early music scene, Ensemble 642's performances have been described as 'An ethereal pleasure...exquisite...like a lovely, evocative dream' (Limelight, 2023).
Proceeds from this concert will support Ensemble 642's performance at the 2024 Urbino Musica Antica Festival in Italy. Donations are welcomed.
