Lost Love Songs
About
In this Sunday’s Lost Love Songs concert, mezzo soprano Christina Wilson, pianist Alan Hicks and violinist Chris Latham will present the fruits from their latest cultural recovery project in this program of ‘almost lost’ Love songs. The title comes from the 50+ Love Songs sent by James Simon to his true love, the singer Toni Therese Werner, who had fled to the US to escape the Nazis. These Lost Love Songs are unpublished, and as part of this project we are typesetting his manuscripts and will publish them in Holland, where James Simon hid during WW2.Along with James Simon, we are also recovering rare works by Leo Kok, Erwin Schulhoff, CS Taube, Josima Feldschuh and Heinz Lewin and will be pairing them with the greatest painters killed in the Holocaust, Otto Freundlich, Charlotte Salomon, Malva Schalek and Felix Nussbaum.
