In a unique collaboration, composer, sound artist & musician Elissa Goodrich has crafted a musical interpretation of the fluid-dynamics research of Prof. Richard Manasseh and his team at Swinburne, who are working on an Australian Research Council project on the sounds naturally emitted by ocean bubbles.
The musician-scientist collaborators explore how bubbles are formed by breaking ocean waves and burst. Bubbles in breaking waves drive the absorption of humanity’s carbon-dioxide emissions by the ocean and seed the atmosphere with cloud-forming mists. The sounds produced by bubbles contain a wealth of information about their size and number.
Fusing classical traditions, improvisation and graphic scores of waves & bubbles,"creating exquisite textures and unexpected shapes", Elissa's project brings together some of Australia's finest artists.
