Opera by the Lakes 2025
About
Opera by the Lakes is an annual event in March each year since 2014 (two years off for Covid). It has attracted up to 1000 patrons to enjoy such performers as Marina Prior, David Hobson, Sylvie Paladino, Teddy Tahu Rhodes and many others. It is held at Nyerimilang Heritage Park (near Lakes Entrance Victoria) with stunning views across the Gippsland Lakes.2025 will have international bass baritone Teddy Tahu Rhodes, international soprano Antoinette Halloran, international tenor Shanul Sharma, international mezzo-soprano Dimity Shepherd, plus local young music theatre performer Will Hardy, accompanied by the brilliant David McNicol.

OPERA BY THE LAKES 2025 - INFORMATION SHEET
• When? Sunday 16 March 2025 Allocated seating only (seat number on your ticket).
• Where? Nyerimilang Heritage Park between Lakes Entrance & Metung - follow Princes Highway between Bairnsdale & Lakes Entrance – turn off at Kalimna West Rd or Nungurner Rd & follow road signs.
• Where can I purchase tickets:
- TRY BOOKING at www.trybooking.com/CSRKY,
- Visitor Information Centre at Bairnsdale or Lakes Entrance, or
- ring Andrea Ford on 0409771526
• Car park opens 11am: CFA supervising.
• Disabled patrons: CFA will direct you to disabled parking.
• Picnic Lawn Opens at 11am: collect boxed lunches before entry via GATE HOUSE - tickets must be shown. Tea/coffee, cakes, wine are available.
• Performance Lawn opens at 12 noon. Ticket required for Entry. Ticket has your seat number, which matches your CHAIR number - do NOT move chair.
• Concert commences at 1.30pm • Concludes at approximately 4.30pm
• If I need help? Gippsland Opera volunteers will be wearing bright orange jackets
• Can I get a refund? No refunds available. If you cannot attend, gift to a friend.
• What do I bring? Outdoor event, BYO sunhat (no wide brim), sun cream, poncho, no umbrellas) warm jumper, bottle water, insect repellent, sunscreen & sensible shoes,
• Boxed lunch: delicious, boxed lunches created by Albert & Co. Once you have purchased your ticket on Try Booking, then order your lunch via the Albert & Co website. Collect your pre-ordered lunch on the day before entering.
• Can I bring my own lunch? Yes, if it is a picnic lunch with eskies, that can be enjoyed on the PICNIC LAWN - not the OPERA LAWN. IF you bring a small lunch that fits on your lap, or boxed lunch, at 12 noon, you can go into the performance area and take your pre booked seat.
• Aisles MUST be left clear at all times
• Can I bring alcohol to the event? NO! - BYO alcohol is not permitted, as per our liquor licence, hence larger bags may be checked by Gippsland Opera volunteers as per regulations.
• Can I purchase a glass of wine? Yes - Friends of Nyerimilang at Carmen's Wine Bar have wine, soft drink or water available to purchase from noon at Opera Lawn.
• Can I purchase food? Tea/coffee provided by Red Cross, cakes provided by Nungurner Primary School, Friends of Nyerimilang sell our local wines. Coffee trucks, ice cream van are also present.
• Can I bring a dog? Only companion/guide dogs permitted, ring prior 0409771526
• Water: tap or tank water at Nyerimilang not for drinking - bottled water for sale, or BYO
• Pre-concert entertainment: From 11am, East Gippsland Brass Band will be playing on the PICNIC lawn. From noon, East Gippsland Symphonia will be performing on the OPERA lawn.
• First Aid: Available on site
• Programs will be on sale $5 from Gippsland Opera volunteers
• Is EFTPOS available? ATM machines & EFTPOS are not available at this venue. Cash is required for coffee, program, wine, food.
• Toilets: Unisex toilets with hand basins will be on site, along with public toilets
• Is Homestead open to the public? Homestead CLOSED to all except performers.
• Emergency venue for 2025 will be St Mary’s Church Main St Bairnsdale. This venue seats 400. In this unlikely scenario, it will be necessary to hold two one-hour performances. Info Centres, and volunteers at Nyerimilang will be notified.
