The Irish Harp in Australia - Winter Lunch
About
Dr Frances Thiele, historian and collector of nineteenth century Irish and English harps, will be guest speaker at the Romsey Lancefield Historical Society's annual Winter Lunch on Sunday 21 July 2024. Studying the harp and other musical instruments may seem to be an esoteric aspect of colonial history, yet a study of this kind can result in a much greater understanding of the social and cultural life of the first white settlers in Victoria. Fran will tell us the story of the harp she brings along, how she found it and how and when it was restored! She will explain to us the way a harp is played and then perform some well-known Irish tunes. At the end of her talk and performance, there will be time to ask questions. Come along to a hearty lunch of home-made soup, sandwiches and slices - all for $30 per head!Location
