Kaya! Welcome to West Australian Ventilation & Early rehabilitation (WAVE) Association's inaugural 2025 conference themed 'The Breathing Breakthrough: from ventilation to liberation.' This groundbreaking conference aims to bring together professionals from various specialties and disciplines who share a common interest in the management of difficult and prolonged ventilation weaning. It also covers clinicians who manage long-term invasive and non-invasve ventilation in the rehabilitation and community settings. This conference is a must for for intensivists, respiratory physicians, critical care/respiratory and specialist rehabilitation nursing, and allied health professionals.

We are honoured to have Professor Nicholas Hart as our 2025 keynote speaker. Professor Hart is internationally recognised for his work in the field of respiratory and critical care medicine. His is currently the director of the Lane Fox Respiratory Service and the director of research and development at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, and joint editor-in-chief for Thorax Journal. Nick’s research is focussed on the long-term outcomes of patients with chronic respiratory disease and post critical care illness, readmission prevention in acute COPD, prevention of skeletal muscle wasting during acute illness, and trials to improve long-term outcome in sleep-disordered breathing and chronic respiratory failure.

In addition to Professor Hart, we are delighted to feature a variety of national and local experts, covering a diverse range of topics from physiological interactions in ventilator weaning to discipline-specific roles.
