POI WORKSHOPS - Maitland art gallery garden (SOLD OUT)
About
Come play poi with Wolf and Kiki – we are going to move, spin, giggle, play & learn. Poi is a simple, fun, and effective way to engage children of all ages and abilities. Help kids develop key physical and cognitive skills. What is Poi? Poi is a weight on a cord, and poi spinning is the act of spinning that weight in circles around your body. Sound simple? It is!
And it’s also super fun, affordable, and scientifically proven to help your brain and body feel amazing.
Poi originated with the Māori people of Aotearoa (New Zealand). It is a cultural treasure (tangi) still practised today. SpinPoi is a variation to that cultural art form and over the past few years I have presented this variation at local council community events, national and international festivals and Te Ukaipo Maori Club Newcastle.
We honour the origin of poi and pay respect to the knowledge keepers and living culture of Aotearoa. (pronounced Ah-or-tear-raw ah but said fast)
