About
Join us to celebrate the launch of MAKING THE SHRINE!MAKING THE SHRINE: Stories from Victoria's War Memorial
Laura J Carroll's funny and tender graphic novel explores, in 25 handwritten and illustrated stories, the soul of a city's most treasured monument, along with how it impacted the lives of generations of people: those who made it, visited it, violated and venerated it.

Making the Shrine will be launched by Bart Ziino, author of A Distant Grief: Australians, War Graves and the Great War.
Join us in the magical Main Hall of Melbourne's Mission to Seafarers for this very, very happy occasion.
Katti Williams from the University of Melbourne will MC proceedings; Cr Jamal Hakim, portfolio lead for Creative Melbourne, will speak as a representative of the City of Melbourne.
Our celebration will feature two amazing moments from the secret history of the Shrine:
- a rare screening of 'Eclipse', an archival short film from the 1970s filmed at the Shrine (complete with mind-blowing psychedelic synthesiser score)
- and special guest Sarah Mary Chadwick, the queen of heart-wrenching vulnerability expressed in song, will perform the song 'Shrine of Remembrance' ... almost certainly not heard in Melbourne since its debut at the Tivoli in 1932.
The Mission to Seafarers Victoria is fully licensed - bar open daily from 12pm.
Supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants. The Mission to Seafarers Victoria is a Proud Supporter of this event.
