Unruly passions: music from the stage and screen
About
Undergoing her PhD in Musicology at the University of Melbourne, Amelia Le Plastrier is researching representations of madness in music, from the Bedlamite ballads to the obscure English Mad Song, to operatic mad scenes and beyond.Le Plastrier’s passion for mad music began in her third year of undergrad, when she fell in love with Purcell’s “Bess of Bedlam." A frustration with the lack of information there was about the genre of Mad Song compelled Le Plastrier to pursue a PhD.
This stunning concert program explores some of the most musically influential and prominent pieces featuring in Le Plastrier’s current research.
