The Industrial Revolution and Decorative Arts - Andrew Spira
About
The Industrial Revolution had a profound impact on the decorative arts, bringing objects that had previously been associated with nobility within reach of the ever-growing middle-class. Radical new inventions and techniques reduced the cost of manufacturing products, leading to the evolution of shops and enterpreneurs, which led in turn to completely new attitudes towards taste.Andrew Spira studied at the Courtauld Institute and Kings College, London. He has worked at the Temple Gallery, London and as a curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum in the British Galleries and the Silver, Metalwork and Jewellery Department.
