Hunter White Ribbon Breakfast 2024 - Wallsend Diggers (SOLD OUT)
About
The Hunter White Ribbon Committee is pleased to be holding our White Ribbon Breakfast on Friday November 22nd at Wallsend Diggers.
Doors open 6.30am for a 7.00am start.
Hunter White Ribbon’s annual Networking Breakfast kicks off the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, an international campaign that runs from November 25th (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10th (Human Rights Day) and encourages action and awareness against all forms of violence against women and girls.
Every woman has the right to live free from men's violence, and it is everyone’s responsibility to make it happen. We know that the foundation for changing social attitudes, behaviours and systems lies in being curious, getting informed, and promoting and delivering evidence-based actions for change.
The Hunter White Ribbon breakfast is a public event open to all. Our purpose is to create awareness, discussion and to present ideas to help resolve the issue of Men's Violence Against Women. Making woman's safety a men's issue too.
Each year we support a local community organization and invite a special guest to tell us their story and to generate thinking and solutions to this issue. After venue issues forced a cancellation in 2023, we have again chosen Warlga Ngurra Women & Children’s Refuge, a specialist homelessness service offering emergency accommodation and support for women, with or without children, who are homeless due to domestic violence. Court support, children’s activities, outreach support, advocacy, housing support, child support and referrals are also offered. Our guest speaker is Liann Taffe, a proud Kamilaroi woman who grew up on Ngiyampaa nation (Nyngan) and a Domestic Violence Specialist with Warlga Ngurra.
Liann is a woman in our community. Someone who has survived the pain and suffering that we were unable to stop. A woman that stands tall and proud, with a voice, one that we will all hear. One that we will all echo. For we will not be silent. We will STAND UP, AND SPEAK OUT! For those who have fought and gone before deserve nothing less.
