ADFAS Brisbane HID-The Art of Ancient Eastern Civilizations
This interest day will explore "The Art of Ancient Eastern Civilisations : the Mesopotamian Civilisations : Persia".
The name Persia derives from the ancient Greek Persis, a Hellenised form of Pars. Mesopotamian people such as the Assyrians, called them “Parsu”. The Persians were Indo-European. Persians were inclusive and tolerant of different cultures. Their cuisine was sophisticated, meals and banquets were extremely elaborate. Persian women were active, enterprising, attractive and dangerous…Alexander the Great feared them! Trade was open to women as well as to men. The best art and crafts examples came from the Treasury at Persepolis: gold, silver, and ivory pieces as well as jewellery and gems were found in different excavations.
