A two-day workshop exploring paper textiles, their creation and use.On Day 1 you will learn:
• Texturing and felting of paper using Joomchi;
• Strengthening and texturing of paper using Momigami;
• Basic paper cordage plying;
• The basics of making kami-ito (traditional Japanese paper thread)
On Day 2 you will learn:
• how to apply stitch and textile construction approaches to paper cloth, through making a paper cloth accessory (bag, hat or wallet) or a vest;
• How to use eastern and western papers for textile projects;
• Stitching techniques and construction approaches suitable for using with paper cloth - including reinforcing, seaming and embellishment - that will make sure your paper textiles last and are fit for purpose
Paper cloth created on the first day of the workshop can be used on the second day. This workshop is suitable for beginners and experienced students. Basic sewing skills are an advantage. A materials kit valued at over $40 is included in the ticket price.
