George Dreyfus is one of Australia’s best-known classical music composers, known for his work across opera, symphonies, and film scores. Born in Germany in 1928, he migrated to Australia in 1939 and began his career as a bassoonist before shifting to composition. His iconic theme for the TV series Rush brought him widespread recognition, and his diverse body of work earned him numerous accolades, including as a member of the Order of Australia in addition to the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.A versatile composer, Dreyfus has blended European and Australian influences throughout his career, often incorporating humor and traditional elements. He has been a key figure in both high art and community music, using his talents to engage audiences and inspire future generations.

Kay Dreyfus is a musicologist and historian with doctorates in both fields. She has made significant contributions through her work as a curator and author, including editing The Farthest North of Humanness and writing on Australia's musical history.
