The Parenting Teenagers Course
About
The Course is for any parent or carer of children aged 11-18, whether they consider themselves to have strong parenting skills or are struggling, and whether they are parenting as a couple, single parent or as a step-parent. The practical tools of the course are applicable to everyone who has responsibility for a child in this age group.The Alpha Parenting Teenagers Course was developed in the UK by Nicky and Silla Lee, who have authored The Parenting Book and The Marriage Book. The talks include filmed clips of parenting experts and parents and teenagers sharing their own experience.
When: There are four Thursday sessions in November: 7:30 - 9:30 p.m., including supper
1) November 7th: Keeping the End in Mind and Meeting our Teenagers' Needs
* The Five Love Languages
* Effective Communication
2) November 14th: Setting Boundaries and Discipline
* Letting go gradually
* Encouraging Responsibility
3) November 21st: Developing Emotional Health
* Handling Anger
* Resolving conflict and handling stress
4) November 28th Helping Them Make Good Choices
* Drugs, Alcohol, Sex
* Equipping our teenagers for the future
In a warm and friendly atmosphere, you will hear a talk on key issues for parents of teenagers and advice from professionals and have the opportunity to reflect on and discuss this in a small group. During the talks there are breaks to discuss the issues you have raised. You will also receive a workbook that summarises the talk and helps you identify your own parenting style. Many people have learnt a lot from others and themselves in the sharing of stories, but if you do not wish to disclose any information that is fine too.
Whilst it would be great to attend all the sessions, if you can't make them all, then come to those you can attend. The sessions largely stand on their own.
Supper is included. You can advise us if you have any dietary requirements when booking.
