Preston Symphony Orchestra - Concert 2 2025 "Resurgence"
About
The second concert of the 2025 season honours two women composers of great distinction, as well as featuring one the most stirring symphonies of Tchaikovsky. Lili Boulanger’s short work "D’un matin de printemps" (‘Of a spring morning’) is evocative of early 20th century French music; the lyrical cello concerto of Marie Jaëll is reputed to be the first cello concerto composed by a woman. It will be played in this concert by Melbourne cellist and co-founder of the Flinders Quartet, Zoe Knighton. The concert finishes with the fateful drama of Tchaikovsky’s 4th symphony. The concert is conducted by Leonard Weiss.Date
