TOUCH

TOUCH is a collaboration between two forms of dance, ballet and the Indian classical artform, Bharathanatyam.
A new dance work that delves into the minds of 2 South Asian dancers with similar cultural backgrounds but who pursued different art forms, including, Ballet & Bharathanatyam. In blending these genres, power & beauty emerge through acceptance & respect.
The collective is comprised of women of colour from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Asian/Indian/Mauritian, and British backgrounds. The juxtaposition of Ballet & Bharathanatyam highlights the differences between cultures & beliefs. Each dancer begins by introducing their own style, one showcasing Indian and the other Ballet. The opening serves as a strong visual representation of the disparity dancers have faced. It reflects isolation & separation experienced by those accepted because of their cultural differences. The Story unfolds as artists blend & merge their movements which then become “bilingual” and embody harmony & power through accepting and understanding diversity.
