Code your own Adventure Game (workshop for high school students and over)
ECU's School of Science: Computing and Security is proud to offer this coding workshop for secondary students and teachers who are familiar with coding and basic coding concepts (intermediate skill level recommended). You will require some knowledge of Python and/or coding principles and will be guided to create a 2D game where you explore an open grassy world of your making!
This new workshop will give you an overview of how game characters are coded, how levels are created and how to put everything together to code a digital game.
If you would like to take your game home please bring a USB/thumb-drive.

What the day looks like:
• 8:45am: Arrival/housekeeping, logging onto computers etc
• 9:00am: Workshop 1: introduction to Godot game engine
• 10:00am: Break
• 10:30am: Workshop 2: Charector creation
• 11:30am: Workshop 3: Making the world
• 12:30pm: Lunch break
• 1:00pm: Workshop 4: Final touches
• 2:00pm: Workshop 5: Play your game!
• 3:00pm: End of day
Parents/Guardians are invited to come and view what students have created from 2:45pm onwards.

Workshops take place in ECU’s computer labs due to software requirements - computers are provided.
For some workshops, it is suggested that you bring a blank USB stick to copy your work across to at the end of the workshop so that you can continue developing at home!

Please bring your own morning tea and lunch.
Parking, drop off and pick up:
Please use Visitor parking in Carpark 14. The entrance is via Deakin off Lakeside Drive. See Google Maps for directions. If you are staying for longer than a drop off then please adhere to parking signs.
Release from our care:
Please inform us if your child is to be released from our care at close of the event and a parent/guardian will not be present to collect them.

Please indicate Parent/Guardian consent for student photographs to be taken and used by ECU. Further details under Terms.

As the parent/guardian, by enrolling your child you understand that your child will be participating in online activities, and will adhere to the rules and instructions of ECU staff leading the program. You accept that your child is participating at their own risk and that, whilst ECU will take reasonable steps to minimise risk (i.e. provision of safe environments and active supervision, including during use of online programs suitable for school aged students) neither ECU nor its staff may be held responsible for any accidental injury or sickness or the consequences thereof, arising from the student’s participation in the program.
All staff and Ambassadors running the programs hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
We may take photos at any time during the event for news articles, social media, and promotion of science events at ECU in the future. Please make sure you check the box to indicate if you do not want your child to be photographed (so that we know) and tell your child (so that they know) that they are not to be included in any photos. Selecting that a student is permitted to be photographed or a student choosing to stand in a photo assumes agreement to the use of their image for the above purposes.
The data you submit when registering will be sent to, stored and used by the form owner, Edith Cowan University. ECU will deal with personal and sensitive information in a manner that protects the privacy of individuals whilst meeting the University’s policy and legislative obligations.
