PIPER PAEDIATRIC - Advanced Paediatric Resuscitation (APR)
About
This is a full day 8 hour face to face workshop where participants will meet the key performance criteria of advanced paediatric resuscitation, including recognition of an unwell child, Basic Life Support, Advanced Airway Management skills, Human Factors, Manual Defibrillation/Rhythm Analysis, Intraosseous Insertion, Reversible causes, PLS Simulation Scenarios following our ANZCOR/ARC Guidelines
A light lunch is provided on the day.
Please note the cost of ticket does not include the trybooking booking fees
Throughout the Paediatric Advanced Life Support program, learners will be expected to meet the key performance criteria of:
Recognition of an unwell child
- identifying red flags
- follow a structured approach to assessment (ABCDE)
- identify appropriate management of an unwell infant or child following the ANZCOR resuscitation guidelines
Basic Life Support
- Recognise an unwell infany or child following the DRSABCD approach
- Perform effective Basic Airway manoeuvres including oxygen management, BVM, End-tidal CO2, Oropharungeal/nasopharyngeal airway insertion
- Perform effective chest compressions on an infant child
Advanced Airway Management
- Perform advanced Airway manoeuvres including: BVM, End Tidal CO2 monitoring, two-person technique, LMA insertion
- Discuss and demonstrate Endotracheal size, insertion and management (appropriate to scope of practice)
Human Factors
- Discuss how human factors affect team performance
Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of manual defibrillator
- Discuss and identifies shockable vs non shockable rhythms
- Demonstrates safety when applying defibrillation pads
- Correctly identifies appropriate joules for an infant or child using a manial debibrillator and differences with an AED
- Follows the safe approach to defibrillation
- Demonstrates safety when delivering a shock or disarming the defibrillator
- Delivers shock with minimal pauses to compressions
- Demonstrates/discuss safety with cardioversion
Resuscitation Medications
- Discuss and prepare resuscitation medications and fluids required for a deteriorating infant or child
- Discuss advanced medications required in the paediatric APLS/ANZCOR guidelines for resuscitation
Reversible Causes
- Discuss reversible causes
- 4Hs and 4Ts
Demonstration of resuscitation scenario utilising team and cognitive aides in a simulation scenario
- Follow the structured approach to managing a deteriorating child
- Allocate team resources appropriately (right people in the right roles, utilise all resources)
- Human Factors
- Utilise effective technical skills and human factors (effectiveness of sharing your mental model, DRSABCD, recap, closed loop communication, situational awareness)
- Identify and follow the appropriate APLS algorithm
- Recognise and manage reversible causes
- Post resuscitation management
