Master of Suspense: Alfred Hitchcock - John Francis
About
After moving to Hollywood, Hitchcock created several cinema masterpieces including Vertigo (1958) and Psycho (1960). Vertigo has recently been voted by critics as the best ever film overtaking Citizen Kane. A full analysis of Hitchcock's masterful technique and influences will be the central focus of this lecture. It has been argued that Hitchcock’s films should be regarded as artistic masterworks and he remains by far the most studied and revered film director of all time.Initially trained as a painter, John was awarded the Max Beckmann Memorial Scholarship in painting in Brooklyn, New York and went on to be artist in residence for the state of Texas. Later in his career John produced and directed several short films and animations. He has lectured and run workshops on film, art and pedagogy at universities in UK, US and Malaysia. .
