Celebrate! 30 Years of Monash Chorale and 330 Years of Music
About
Monash Chorale is turning 30 this year and to celebrate this milestone we want to entertain you with a concert celebrating music from the last 330 years. This concert will also be a homage to the patron saint of music, St Cecilia. We will perform music from Purcell’s Ode to St Cecilia (1692) , and Handel’s Alexander’s Feast or The Power of Music (1736), and the beautiful St Cecilia Mass by Gounod (1878).
There will also be two works which have been composed and or arranged for the Monash Chorale for our anniversary concert. Richrd Excell’s ‘Quod Musica Est’ (What music is), and Kathryn Sadler’s ‘Hymn to St Cecilia’, invoke both modern and early music styles in melodic pieces. The choir is honoured to have these two composers’ musical gifts to bring to you.
With professional soloists and orchestral musicians and our talented musical director Lucas de Jong, it promises to be a joyful musical anniversary. We will continue celebrating with you with an afternoon tea following the concert.
