Jews in a Greek World
About the Event:
Discover the unique history of Jews in Greece, a story that transcends the usual Ashkenazic-Sephardic divide. This short course traces their journey from the ancient Romaniote community to Sephardic and Ashkenazic migrations under Byzantine and Ottoman rule, and into modern Greek independence. We’ll explore the influence of Hellenism on Jewish life in antiquity and reflect on the tragic loss of 90% of Greek Jews during the Shoah. Join us to uncover this remarkable and complex narrative.
